Professor of neuroscience and director of the Brain Institute of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN). Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences from the University of Brasilia (1993), Master in Biophysics at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (1994), PhD in Animal Behavior by the Rockefeller University (2000) with Postdoctoral Fellow in Neurophysiology at Duke University (2005). He has experience in neuroethology, molecular neurobiology and neurophysiology systems, mainly in the following themes: sleep, dream and memory; neuronal plasticity; voice communication; symbolic competence in non-human animals; computational psychiatry and neuroeducation. He held the triennium 2009-2011 as secretary of the Brazilian Society of Neuroscience and Behavior (SBNeC). From 2011-2015 he was coordinator of the Brazilian committee of the Pew Latin American Fellows Program in the Biomedical Sciences. Since 2011 is a member of the scientific committee of the Latin American School of Education, Cognitive and Neural Sciences (LA School), which in 2014 received the inaugural award exemplifying the Mission of the International Mind, Brain and Education Society. He is also the core coordinator of the children evaluation project for risk for learning disorder (ACERTA – CAPES / Education Observatory). Senior associate researcher at the Research Support Foundation of São Paulo (FAPESP) in research, innovation and diffusion in Neuromathematics (Neuromat). Member of the Advisory Council of the Brazilian Platform for Drug Policy, created in 2015. Editor member of the Journals Frontiers in Integrative Neuroscience, Frontiers In Psychology – Language Sciences, Neurobiology, and Basic and Clinic Neuroscience. Member of the Interdisciplinary Center for Studies on Psychoactive (NEIP) and OSCIP Planting Consciousness.
