Graduated in Biological Sciences at the State University of Rio de Janeiro (1988), master’s degree in Biological Sciences (Genetics) by the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (1993), PhD in Cell and Developmental Biology – Harvard University (1998) and post- doctorate at the Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology, Harvard University (2002). Currently, he is associate professor at the Department of Biochemistry, Institute of Chemistry, USP. He has experience in molecular genetics of microorganisms, and in the use of GFP and fluorescence microscopy to study the dynamics of proteins in living cells. His laboratory studies the molecular mechanisms that control bacterial growth and cell division.
